The band was founded in 2016 by Victoria De Angelis (bass) and Thomas Raggi (guitar), later joined by Damiano David (vocals) and Ethan Torchio (drums). Victoria, 50% Danish, proposed the name Måneskin which is Danish for Moonlight. • In 2017 Måneskin finished as runner-up (2nd place) in the eleventh edition of X Factor (Italian season 11), thanks to which they signed a contract with the record label Sony Music. In March 2021 Måneskin won the the "Big Artists" section (Golden Lion) of the Sanremo Music Festival 2021 (Italian: 71º Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo 2021) with the song "Zitti E Buoni". • This victory earned them the right to represent Italy during the Eurovision Song Contest held in Rotterdam, winning, on May 22, 2021, with the same song
